Going to school with a schoolbag is very common for healthy children. But for children in wards of Musculoskeletal Cancer Surgery Department, that is a dream out of their reach. However, since March 5, teachers of Beihong High School have delivered classrooms to the wards of Shanghai General Hospital, thus allowing the sunshine of knowledge to shine into children’s heart.
“The First Emperor of Qin has left many mysteries. Today, let’s turn into Detective Conan to seek who is his father.”
At the activity room of the wards of Musculoskeletal Cancer Surgery Department of Shanghai General Hospital, Mr. / Miss Sun, a history teacher of Beihong High School, raised the topic of this Sunshine Class to the students. Amid the music of the theme song of “Detective Conan”, the classroom has turned into a site where all students were detecting the mystery on the father of the First Emperor of Qin. Led by Sun, children started from various historical documents like Records of the Historian and got closer to this legendary Emperor step by step. With the deepening of the teacher’s “detection logic”, happy and relax atmosphere has permeated the ward.
“It’s a good way to attend class. But everything is subject to child’s physical condition. If he’s OK, I’ll totally support him to attend the class.” A father was also taking this lesson with keen pleasure and the “physical condition” he mentioned is indeed the special part of the Sunshine Class. Most ordinary children are going to school bouncily with a school bag. Here, children are attending class while having an intravenous drip. Such a class has been a touch of color in their dull life and also satisfied their thirst for knowledge.
It is learnt that Sunshine Class is a project under the cooperation of the Social Worker Department of Shanghai General Hospital and the Party General Brach and the CYL Committee of Beihong High School and the teachers have prepared lessons and delivered classes in their spare time. Gan Jingwen, Chief of the CYL Committee of Beihong High School, told the Reporter, “The participants of Sunshine Class are mostly young League members of the Teaching and Administrative Staff Youth League Branch and young Party member teachers. We hope that young teachers can take advantage of their specialty to temper their Party spirits through practice and this is also a result of our Party building driving League building.”
The “Sunshine Class” public service will be carried out once a week from this semester. It involves Chinese, Geology, Arts, English, History and other disciplines and aims to satisfy sick children’s study requirement and help them build the confidence of bravely facing the disease by creating a warm environment in the wards.
